Another regional competition, another barrel of awards for our Alpha Iota Chi (AIC) chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) International Honor Society.
The AIC team won numerous chapter and individual awards at the virtual Tennessee Regional PTK Convention held on March 20. Motlow State Community College hosted the virtual event.
Those awards included 1st place for a Distinguished Chapter and 1st place for Distinguished Officer Team. The chapter also won 1st place for their Honors in Action project, Finding Unity in Humanity: Beginning a New Legacy of Inclusion. The chapter started a podcast creating an outlet for the experiences of LGBTQIA+ individuals in the Appalachian region.
The chapter team took home the 1st place Theme Award for Heirs of Our Ways and the 3rd place award for the 2020-21 College Project, Keeping Student Life Alive during COVID 19. For the College Project competition, the team sought to keep student activities alive during the COVID global pandemic. The chapter created a peer-led virtual club fair and a virtual student organization tool accessible through the D2L online learning management system. The chapter also organized a faculty advisor information and training session during this spring semester.
Bryan Kirk, chapter treasurer, took home 2nd place award in the Distinguished Chapter Officer category. Chapter President Brittany Rowell received 3rd place as Distinguished Chapter Officer. Marilyn Murray earned the 3rd place as Distinguished Chapter Member. Kirk was also named Regional Tennessee Regional Vice President – East for 2021-22.
Alpha Iota Chi earned the REACH Rewards designation from PTK earlier this year. That designation recognizes and rewards PTK chapters that excel in membership development. The chapter team competes next at the PTK Catalyst Virtual 2021 event scheduled April 8-10.
Headquartered in Jackson, Miss., the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society is the largest honor society in higher education with 1,250 chapters worldwide. More than 3 million students have been inducted since its founding in 1918, with about 134,000 students inducted annually.
Congratulations to the chapter members and faculty advisors for another year of tremendous work!
