Because of You Campaign records another successful year

Northeast State’s Because of You Campaign enjoyed another successful year raising funds to support students during the fifth annual fundraising promotion held Sept. 27 to Oct. 8.

Northeast State President Bethany Bullock announced campaign results at a celebration held Oct. 20 in the amphitheater outside Wayne G. Basler Library. The campaign raised $35,886 to fund programs for students through the Northeast State Foundation.

“I am continually humbled by the generosity of our Northeast State faculty and staff as well as their dedication to both our institution and our students,” said President Bullock. “Funds raised from Because of You make it possible for Northeast State to ensure our students can be successful by meeting the complex needs of students as they navigate their way through their post-secondary educational journey.”

Celebrating 10 years of fundraising for students, Because of You features a series of fundraising events organized by departments from across the College. The campaign raises money for student scholarships administered by the Northeast State Foundation. Staff and faculty organize teams to compete as the top fundraising group.

Team Bear Bucks topped this year’s campaign participants with $6,888 raised. Held inside Wayne G. Basler Library, the ever-popular Bear Bucks Marketplace featured a slew of holiday gifts and themed décor.

The Academic Affairs team ranked second with more than $5,523 raised. The Music Department team posted $3,399 in funds raised. The department hosted the Northeast State’s Got Talent show contest.

The talent contest invited submissions from students and staff. Fans paid to cast their votes for the most talented performer. The 1st Place award went to Deidre Close for her superb rendition of the song Tin Man, recorded by Miranda Lambert.  Zach McNabb took second place with his stirring acoustic performance of Folsom Prison Blues, by Johnny Cash. Christopher Laing received third place for his hard-rocking song, Distortion.
