Marsh Regional awards four $1,000 scholarships to future NE State students

Marsh Regional Blood Center representatives Kristy Christian and Maci Andrews recently presented four future Northeast State students with $1,000 scholarships.

Recipients of scholarships are chosen through various programs. Large, medium and small high schools compete for the highest collection numbers throughout the year in order to earn scholarships. Marsh awarded $20,000 in scholarships for 2018.

Also, individual students can earn scholarships by participating in the “Save the Summer” and “Holiday Hero” promotions.

Marsh also awards some grant money to the high school organizations which help with drives such as HOSA, JROTC, and school clubs.

The students are Megan Livingston and Sara Whitley of Dobyns-Bennett High School, Austin Mullins of Sullivan North High School, and Crystal Milner of Happy Valley High School.

“One out of every three units of blood we collect comes from a high school student. That number is a remarkable testament to the giving nature of our young people in this region,” Marsh director Don Campbell says. “To see the younger generation so in tune with saving local lives is an awesome thing. Twenty thousand sounds like a lot, but the truth is we could never do enough to say thanks to these young people.”
