Neubrander earns ETSU Quillen Scholarship

Northeast State graduate Daniel Neubrander has been named a 2018 recipient of a James H. Quillen Scholarship at East Tennessee State University.

The $5,000 scholarships were created through a bequest to ETSU by the late James Quillen, who represented Tennessee’s First Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives for 34 years.

Quillen requested endowment proceeds be used to fund scholarships for graduate, undergraduate and medical students from the First Congressional District on the basis of scholastic endeavors, school and community leadership, volunteer service and activities and work experience.

Neubrander of Chuckey is pursuing the doctor of physical therapy degree. He graduated summa cum laude in May 2016 from ETSU with a degree in physical education with a concentration in exercise science.

As an undergraduate, he was a dean’s list student and an Academic Performance Scholarship recipient, as well as a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Golden Key honor societies. He also earned an associate degree in pre-physical therapy from Northeast State Community College.

Since he was in high school, Neubrander has been active in his church in numerous capacities, including administration, preaching, mission work and education. He is the son of Ken Neubrander and Johanna Neubrander, who is director of Nursing at Northeast State.
