Northeast State’s “Hot Nights, Cool Music” summer concert series rolls on when a renowned guitarist and a legendary popular music performer take the stage on July 17.
Muriel Anderson returns to Northeast State with special guest John McEuen for a performance at 7:00 p.m. in the Regional Center for the Performing Arts Theater on the College’s Blountville campus next to Tri-Cities Airport. The show is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Anderson is considered among the top acoustic nylon-string guitarists / harp-guitarists in the world. Her most recent release Nightlight Daylight won top honors in more than a dozen national events. The CD was chosen as one of the top 10 CDs of the decade by Guitar Player Magazine. It features her concept – the first ever interactive lighted CD cover and includes collaborations with friends and fellow musicians.
Anderson’s joy in music and humor stretches across the genres of folk, classical, bluegrass, popular and international music. An engaging performer, her unique approach to the instrument transforms the guitar into a lyrical choir, then a marching band, then a Japanese koto, then a Bluegrass band, one minute launching into a Beatles’ tune and the next, a Spanish classic.
John McEuen
One of the founding members of the legendary Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, John McEuen has made over 40 albums, including seven solo albums, which have earned four platinum and five gold recognition awards. Those albums earned commercial success and critical acclaim racking up Grammy nominations, County Music Association and Academy of Country Music awards, an Emmy nomination, and an International Bluegrass Music Association record of the year award among others. McEuen has performed on another 25 albums as a guest artist.
His production of Steve Martin – The Crow won the 2010 Best Bluegrass Album Grammy. Prior to that, The Music of the Wild West CD – produced by McEuen, was honored with the Western Heritage Award. A Grammy nomination for the album String Wizards II preceded the 1994 Uncle Dave Macon Award for his excellence in preservation and performance of historic music. On Sirius/XM’s The Bridge, his popular “Acoustic Traveller” radio show is now in its 9th year. McEuen produced and directed the 2006 documentary film The Dillards – A Night In the Ozarks, which captures his early mentors at their best.
