NE State earns positive review by accreditation team

Northeast State recently hosted a virtual on-site accreditation visit by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), receiving a positive review from the assessment team.

The reviewers did not identify any areas of non-compliance and had no recommendations to forward to the SACSCOC Board of Trustees for consideration at their June 2021 board meeting.

Also receiving a positive evaluation was the College’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), “Northeast State Bear Strong: A Culture of Service Excellence.”

The College’s QEP is a five-year plan to enhance customer services for students, enabling them to make the best decisions for academic success. The proposal calls for creating student success centers on Northeast State campuses, professional development training for student-facing staff, and the co-location of student success offices on the Blountville campus.

Northeast State completed the preparation process for reaffirmation by submitting its Compliance Certification Report for an off-site review, a follow-up Focus Report, and an on-site review. The accrediting committee completed a virtual assessment Oct. 26-28, 2020.

The reviewers did not identify any areas of non-compliance and had no recommendations to forward to the SACSCOC Board of Trustees for consideration at their June 2021 board meeting.

SACSCOC reviewers examined the College’s finances, academic programs, facilities, human resources, student services, off-campus sites, teaching credentials, library resources, and other aspects of institutional data. Reviewers also conducted interviews with administrators, faculty, staff, and students.

“The reaffirmation cycle is driven by a rigorous peer-review process of community college leaders from outside the Northeast State who complete an in-depth and comprehensive examination of all aspects of the College,” said Northeast State President Bethany Bullock. “It is remarkable to be found in compliance with all standards and evaluation metrics. I am very proud of the College and the staff and faculty.”

Bullock offered special thanks to Dr. Susan Graybeal, vice president for Institutional Excellence and Student Success, for her role in the accreditation process.

“Her leadership and commitment to academic integrity prepared us so well,” Bullock said.

A Fifth-Year Interim Report will be due in 2025, with the next reaffirmation visit expected in 2030.

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges accredits degree-granting higher education institutions in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. SACSCOC is one of the six most widely accepted accrediting bodies in the United States.
