Northeast State Community College’s award-winning Department of Theater announces open virtual auditions for the new spring production of Wiley and the Hairy Man.
Virtual auditions are being scheduled now and will take place via Zoom on January 26, 27, and 29. Click this link https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70a084cabac2ca4ff2-voice1 to sign up for an audition time slot. Once an audition time is scheduled, the play’s stage manager will contact the actor with detailed instructions and requirements that will include a link to the Zoom auditions.
An actor needs to schedule and complete one audition. The production seeks to cast 4 characters (any gender) with an additional 5-15 ensemble roles.
Northeast State Theatre revs up the creative engine of production with Wiley. Produced by special arrangement with THE DRAMATIC PUBLISHING COMPANY of Woodstock, Ill., the play will be performed in the style of “Paper Theatre.” Sometimes called Toy Theatre or Model Theatre, this whimsical production style traces its roots back to Europe in the 1800’s. The audience can stream the show and listen to the actors while watching the story come to life in an imaginative and creative way that can be enjoyed by the entire family.
The Dramatic Publishing website synopsis reads as follows: This drama is a spine-tingling tale of a boy and his worst fears in the swamp—eventually overcome by Wiley himself. Set deep within the mysterious Tombigbee Swamp, Wiley and the Hairy Man centers around a young fatherless boy, his conjure-woman mother, his faithful dog, and the Hairy Man who haunts Wiley’s days and dreams. Through rhythm and rhyme, a chorus creates the mystery of the swamp. The magic of this play is not fairy dust, it is soil—the magic of survival, the magic of the earth and the mud of the swamp. In an exciting duel of wits, Wiley learns to rely upon his own resources and conquers two villains: the Hairy Man and his own fear.
