Northeast State announces Matthew Poole has been selected to the position of Recruiter for the Office of Enrollment Services.
A Northeast State alumnus, Poole previously served as a Success Coach & Lead Mentor of the Inclusive Excellence program at the college. In this new position, Poole takes the lead for engaging potential students interested in applying to Northeast State.
“The recruiter position appealed to me based on my experiences as a student at the Northeast State,” said Poole. “No matter who I was or what my background might have been, they really accepted me as a family member.”
Poole holds a bachelor’s degree from East Tennessee State University and a master’s degree in Psychology from Union College. He graduated cum laude from Northeast State. He returned to Northeast State to serve those students who are seeking their own pathway in life.
“As a student, I was amazed at how we don’t remain stagnate,” said Poole. “We are always looking to grow either physically with our facilities or academically with programs for students.”
An important asset to any enrollment team, a recruiter takes on the responsibility of establishing relationships with potential applicants and explaining programs and services at the college. Relationships also extend to the traditional applicants graduating from high school and non-traditional applicants who may be returning to college.
Those relationships keep prospective students advised about Northeast State’s academic programs, admission requirements, financial aid opportunities, and campus events. Poole also expects to play a role in campus recruitment events, presentations, and communication with students, parents, high school counselors, and other community constituents.
The Northeast State Office of Enrollment Services offers a variety of services to accommodate the needs of incoming students. Spring semester classes begin Jan. 19 with plans already underway to enroll students in the Summer and Fall 2021 semesters.
Poole expects to travel often to meet with high school students across the Northeast State service region. In the age of COVID, electronic communication tools of teleconferencing, emails, and phone calls keep us connected. Those lines of communication continue for all aspects of college life.
“Zoom has and will continue to play a big role in communicating with current students and prospective students,” said Poole. “You have to go where people are, whether in person or via virtual communication.”
The position also involves enhancing relationships with the business community to provide degree and certificate opportunities to their employees. Those relationships are expected to be critical to providing new opportunities for individuals changing careers during the upheaval of COVID-19.
“I know our department wants boots on the ground to engage with potential students and associates,” said Poole. “I’m excited to take on the challenge and move forward to welcoming students into the Northeast State family.”
