Northeast State Theatre performs well at KCACTF competition

The Northeast State Theatre Department represented their craft and college well at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Region IV competition. This year’s festival was a completely virtual event. Colleges and universities from around the Southeast tuned in to perform and interact with their peers from around the region. The list of nominees and competitors can be found here.

Sarah Slagle, a Northeast State alumna and current Theatre major at East Tennessee State University, received the Student Choice Award and the SETC 2nd place award for her costume and makeup design for Northeast State’s The Giver.

Mathew Parvin, current Northeast State Theatre major, won the Heart of the Arts award presented to students who inspire and remind judges why the art of theatrical design is important.

Northeast State’s KCACTF Region IV Festival by the numbers:

2 alumni, 8 current students, and 2 faculty members participated in the festival

3 awards presented to Northeast State students/alumna

5 plays seen virtually

14 workshops attended

15 events where students either auditioned, acted, or shared their designs

28 the number of call backs four of the competing students received from 4-year colleges and universities or professional training programs.

Northeast State Professor and Director of Theatre, Elizabeth M. Sloan, received the Meritorious Achievement Award for Excellence in Directing for the audio drama production of Dracula.  Northeast State’s Technical Director Brad McKenzie earned the Meritorious Achievement Award for Excellence in Sound for Dracula.
