Welcome to Scholars Spotlight that features current recipients of NE State scholarships. Meet Sarah Adams who holds the Basler Incentive Endowed Scholarship.
How have you benefitted from your NE State scholarship?
My NE State scholarship allowed me to continue my education at a time when I was not sure I would be able to afford to. My scholarship has also allowed me to devote more time to my coursework and campus activities than I would have otherwise been able to, which has given me more opportunities in leadership and campus involvement.

What factors helped you make the decision to attend Northeast State?
I came to Northeast State because, while I knew that I wanted to go to college, I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to get a degree in. My first semester, I enrolled in some basic classes hoping that, as I took some general education classes, I would figure out what I wanted to study in the future. I am glad I made that choice because, not only have I found a major that I enjoy, but I have had amazing opportunities, experiences, and met people that I never would have otherwise.
Any advice on how to succeed in college?
If you don’t know already, figure out what your learning style is. For example, I am an auditory learner and I benefit more from listening to lectures, videos, and audiobooks than I do reading from a textbook. Second, ask questions. I’ve learned so much more from either emailing or visiting a professor’s office than I would have otherwise. My third piece of advice would be to talk to your classmates and get involved with clubs and organizations. I’ve met some of my close friends because we took classes together and/or were in the same clubs. Additionally, participating in clubs can provide valuable leadership and community service experience that can also help your resume.
What do you like best about NE State?
I think my favorite thing about NE State is the people. I’ve met so many wonderful people through classes, clubs, or other activities. Everyone I’ve met is so kind and supportive to students and always willing to go above and beyond help or answer any questions.
What’s your favorite class so far? Which one has been the most challenging?
I have thoroughly enjoyed so many of the classes I’ve taken and it’s hard to choose, but I think my favorites have been Computer Science 1 & 2. I have enjoyed learning how to program and the projects and assignments have not only helped me learn the concepts, but they’ve also been a lot of fun. The most challenging classes for me are composition and literature classes.
