The Northeast State Department of Music features several exciting course options for beginners and developing musicians for the upcoming Fall 2021 semester.
Fall semester classes begin August 23 at all Northeast State campuses. Music Department courses offered this semester range from voice and flute instruction to piano and guitar lessons. Students can register for fall classes NOW via the MyNortheast portal. The Music Department’s Fall semester course offerings are listed below.
Individual Music Instruction in Woodwinds (MUS 1933) Instructor Martha Egan teaches this course covering woodwind instruments such as the flute, American Indian flute, pan flute, penny whistle, and piccolo, available at the Blountville and Kingsport campuses. Students must provide their own flute.
Individual Music Instruction in Guitar (MUS 1934) Seeking to strum your six-string on your front porch swing? This three-credit hour class teaches the basics for students seeking to start playing guitar. The course is being taught at the Northeast State at Elizabethton campus. Class instructor is Kathleen Den Bleyker-Thomas.
Special Topics/Flute Ensemble (MUS 2990 Z01) – This two-credit hour course meets in Room D267 of the Regional Center for the Performing Arts (RCPA) building on the Blountville campus Friday mornings from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Ms. Egan also leads the course. Students must provide their own flutes or piccolos.
Guitar Class I (MUS 2992 Z01) This instrument course meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 p.m. – 2:50 p.m., at the Elizabethton campus. The course instructor is Ms. Bleyker-Thomas. Students must provide his or her own guitar to participate.
Individual Music Instruction in Keyboard (Piano) (MUS 1922) – Dazzle your friends by learning to play the piano with a semester of introductory lessons. Instructor Craig Campbell will teach the tickling of ivories. The two-credit-hour course meets at the Blountville and Johnson City campuses. Students are NOT required to bring their own pianos.
Individual Music Instruction in Voice (MUS 1912) – Improve your singing voice and have fun with this two-credit-hour course in vocal performance. Northeast State associate professor Tawana Teague teaches this voice class in Room D267 of the RCPA building at the Blountville campus.
Students are required to pay a lab fee of $90 per semester for course sections MUS 1933, 1934, 1922, 1912.
Music education offers a fun and challenging elective for students in any major. Northeast State offers an associate degree in Music for transfer to King University.
