Best Study Tip Contest winner #2 – Carrie Johnson Coffman

Our second of four Best Study Tip Contest winners is Carrie Johnson Coffman. Carrie’s best study tips and personal statement are below.

  • Space out your studying – don’t try to cram everything in at once.
  • Have a quiet place just for studying and school work (for instance, I have a desk in my room where it is quiet)
  • Play classical music and not music with words-this can help you focus more on what you are studying than getting distracted.
  • Go back to your notes, re-read them, and annotate them. Annotating your notes will be beneficial.
  • PRACTICE!!
  • Make flash cards or make a game out of the material.
  • Test yourself-this can help you figure out what you already know and what you need to focus on
  • Get plenty of rest the night before a big exam. Relax! You got this!

I am a mother to a 3-year-old little boy, and I am also recently married. My major is K-5 Education. After I graduate from Northeast State, I plan to transfer to either ETSU or Milligan College. I am a part of the Scholars Foundation, Trio, and Campus Christian Fellowship here at Northeast State.  I am so glad to be a student at Northeast State. I have had amazing professors who supported and cheered me on.

Thank you to Carrie and all the Northeast State students who submitted entries. Thanks also to our Inclusive Excellent Peer Mentoring team and the judges for putting this contest together. Go Bears!
