Northeast State Community College invites you to commemorate Veterans Day on Nov. 11 with a ceremony honoring the sacrifices and return of the nation’s servicemen and women.
Sponsored by the college’s Veteran & Military Student Success Center, the ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the Regional Center for the Performing Arts Theatre on the Blountville campus next to Tri-Cities Airport.
The ceremony’s master of ceremonies will be United States Army veteran John Adcox. Northeast State associate professor and United States Air Force veteran TSGT. (Ret.) Allan Anderson is this year’s guest speaker.
The theme for Veterans Day 2021 is centered on the centennial commemoration of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Located at Arlington National Cemetery, the Tomb was initially dedicated by the Army on Armistice Day, November 11, 1921, with the burial of an unknown service member from World War I.
Veterans Day is observed on November 11 in commemoration of the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. Hostilities officially ended in 1918 at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
Formerly called “Armistice Day,” Veterans Day was originally intended to honor veterans of the First World War. The meaning of the holiday was expanded later to honor all U.S. military veterans who served in either wartime or peacetime.
The event is open to the public, and the community is encouraged to attend.
