My name is Brandon Head, and I am currently an adjunct faculty member in the Technologies Division. I graduated from Northeast State in 2004 with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Automotive Technology. After graduation, I became an ASE Master Technician, a Honda Master Technician, and a Platinum Technician at Bill Gatton Honda. I returned to Northeast State in 2006 as an adjunct instructor and have been teaching for the past 15 years.
Brandon Head and family
In 2010, I went to work at Eastman, where I completed the maintenance apprenticeship program and received an Industrial Operations certificate from Northeast State in 2013. I worked in maintenance for nine years at Eastman. In 2019, I began working in the Engineering Department as a Solids Handling Technologist where I design and troubleshoot all systems related to handling solid materials. Another technologist and I handle this responsibility for all 52 Eastman sites worldwide.
My wife, Jessica, and I have been married for 19 years and have two sons and three daughters. When I am not at work, the majority of my time is spent attending the kids’ games or other activities. I have coached numerous baseball and basketball teams over the past 14 years as well. I enjoy baseball, college football, F1, and NASCAR. Every year I attend the races at Bristol Motor Speedway with my dad and both of my sons.
My teaching philosophy is to give students a real-world understanding of what it is like in the automotive industry. I stress the importance of being honest and that the work a technician does for a customer represents the technician and the technician’s company. Most students want to focus on hands-on learning, which is very important; however, I also stress to them the importance of having a complete understanding of what it is they are working on. This allows for an accurate diagnosis of the vehicle and helps them to verify they have correctly repaired the vehicle. In addition, I utilize D2L so the students have access to all of my PowerPoint presentations and recorded lectures on YUJA.
My best experience as a faculty member is when a student tells me they were able to get the job and when they reach out to me later to let me know how far they have continued progressing. I would not be where I am today without the education I received from Northeast State. I am grateful that I have had the opportunity to give back and help others achieve their goals.
