The Northeast State Esports Rocket League and Call of Duty teams made history Monday night opening the College’s first-ever Esports team season. The games were simulcast on the gaming channel Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/northeaststateesports.
The Bears Rocket League team trio triumphed winning their best of five games match by 3-0 against the Northland Community College Pioneers. The Rocket League video game combines soccer (or football, for our international friends) with automobiles. Players select their vehicles and take to the digital pitch to score goals during five-minute periods.
The Rocket League team of Hayley Fields (Snow_flakess), Mason Ramsey (Tan_O_Cuna), and Ethan Fink (Radio) swept three consecutive games to win the match. The Bears won the first game 2-1 in an overtime thriller as Radio scored the game-winning goal. Our Bears took the second game 4-0 with the hat trick from Snow_flakess. The team held off a furious Pioneers flurry in the last minute to win 5-4 with Tan_O scoring four goals.
Opening their season with a bang-bang-bang, the Bears’ Call of Duty: Vanguard team fell in their best of five match series against the Missouri State at West Plains Grizzlies. The match included two heartbreaking game losses in the last seconds. CoD: Vanguard Gamers Isaac Carr (LaGz), Isaac Stewart (Swiftcoastal), Kaitlyn Snyder (PsychoKitty), and Keaton Snyder (Drillbit) performed tremendously with each game going to the wire.
Coaches Chris Demas, Brandon Burleson, and Jim Holbrook led their teams in the Esports Arena at Basler Library. The Esports team developed during 2021 and 2022 under the guidance of the coaching staff. Team members earned their spots with tryouts on a series of game platforms.
The Esports world unites team competition and individual players seeking to make a name in the global Esports community. The Northeast State team will face off against Esports teams of regional and national collegiate institutions.
The E-Bears team engages spectators via Twitch or other platform to watch their games like traditional sports. Spectators get a first-person view of what the gamer sees in the field. Two huddle cams stream video of the players competing and the game screens.
