The Northeast State debate team earned best overall honors this weekend at a tournament held at Pellissippi State Community College.
Both Northeast State teams made it to the tournament finals out of seven schools, fielding a total of 16 teams. Kylie Harrison and Ethan Thacker from Northeast State placed 1st in the Novice category for debate, and Dean Fagg and Connor Sproule placed 2nd in Novice debate.
Also, Kylie earned 1st place in the Novice Individual Speaker category, Ethan won 3rd, Connor won 4th, and Dean won 6th. Northeast State took home four of the six Novice Speaker awards.
On top of that, Northeast State won the best overall team, bringing home the Sweepstakes trophy.
Northeast State will host its own debate tournament on April 1 on the Blountville campus.
