Alpha Iota Chi chapter wins accolades at PTK regional convention

Alpha Iota Chi chapter officers and members celebrate their awards.

Northeast State’s Alpha Iota Chi chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) International Honor Society won several team and individual accolades at the Tennessee Regional PTK Convention held March 17-19 at the College’s Blountville campus.

Northeast State hosted the Tennessee Regional Convention welcoming PTK chapters from community colleges across the state. Northeast State welcomed chapters from Cleveland State Community College; Columbia State Community College; Dyersburg State Community College; Motlow Community College; Pellissippi State Community College; Roane State Community College; Volunteer State Community College; Jackson State Community College; and Chattanooga State Community College; and Walters State Community College.

Alpha Iota Chi chapter won the 1st place award as the state’s Distinguished Chapter Officer Team. Brianna Puckett won the 1st place award for Distinguished Chapter Officer category while Ethan Thacker received the 2nd place award. Puckett serves as the chapter’s vice president of public relations. Thacker serves as chapter president.

Alpha Iota Chi earned 1st place awards in the Honors-In-Action Award category and the Honors-In-Action Theme for “Nostalgia as Play” category.  Alpha Iota Chi received the 2nd place award as the region’s Distinguished Chapter Award. AIC also earned a Chapter of Light award presented to six Tennessee regional chapters.

The 2022-23 Alpha Iota Chi officer team is Ethan Thacker, president; Kristen Townsend, vice president of Fellowship; Claudia De La Torre, vice president of Service; Brianna Puckett, vice president of Public Relations; and Karina Whitehead, treasurer.

Distinguished Chapter Officer Teams are nominated by the chapter advisor through the society’s Hallmark Awards application process. Award winners are chosen based on the team’s demonstration of an exceptional atmosphere of teamwork, leadership abilities, promotion of Honors in Action, other engagement in the Society, and enthusiasm for the Hallmarks of the Society.

This marked the first time Northeast State has hosted the regional convention. The Alpha Iota Chi chapter consistently performs well at the regional and national competition levels. The chapter’s achievements rise to meet a well-established standard of excellence each year.

Headquartered in Jackson, Miss., the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society is the largest honor society in higher education with 1,250 chapters worldwide. More than 3 million students have been inducted since its founding in 1918, with more than 130,000 students inducted annually.
