Dual Enrollment Student Success

Dual Enrollment Student Profile – Ava White

Dual enrollment student Ava White.

Northeast State and its High School Programs Department are delighted to highlight a few of our dual enrollment high school students. These students will graduate from high school this spring while earning college credit hours through the career and technical education (CTE) and university parallel pathways.

Ava White is a senior at Tennessee High School in Bristol. She has been earning college credit hours through the university parallel program.

What got you interested you in pursuing the dual enrollment pathway? My grandmother and my sister are the ones who truly encouraged me to go for the dual enrollment pathway!

What have you most enjoyed learning as a dual enrollment student and why? My favorite course I have taken in the program is Introduction to Music because music is something I am extremely passionate about.

What has been the most challenging college course you had as a dual enrolled student? The most challenging class by far is biology 1 and 2 because of the loads of work!

Given your experience, what is the best advice would you give a fellow student thinking about entering the dual enrollment path in high school? My best advice to give a future dual enrollment student would be to own a planner and keep track of your assignments and due dates. I say this because it’s a strange change to go from a teacher you see five days a week reminding you of all your assignments to it being completely on your own. It takes a lot of discipline!

What are your plans after graduating from Northeast State? After graduating Northeast State I will be continuing my education at the University of Chattanooga.

What are your favorite things to do as hobbies or interests? My favorite things to do are paint, scrapbook, photography, singing, and hanging out with friends.
