Road project continues along SR 75 near Blountville campus

Road project on SR75 near the Northeast State Blountville campus.

Students, faculty, and staff traveling to the Northeast State at Blountville campus are urged to drive with caution through an ongoing construction project along State Route 75 at the College’s entrances.

The construction project involves widening State Route 75 to three lanes through the designated project area from State Route 357 / Airport Circle to Centenary Road.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) cautions motorists to be alert for possible lane closures at various times through this construction project. Motorists should be alert for workers present, changed conditions, expect potential delays, and use extreme caution through this area.

The project adds a right turn and acceleration lane at the College’s main entrance to campus. The project includes extending the right turn lane at the Muddy Creek Road intersection, adding left turn lane, and modifying the radius for truck traffic. In addition, traffic signals will be installed at the Bell Street / Airport Circle intersection and the Muddy Creek Road intersection. The construction will narrow the traffic lane on State Route 75 to a nine (9) foot lane width.

The project creates new asphalt and curbs over an approximately 50 feet span for both campus entrances on State Route 75. The project also includes the creation of a concrete curb and gutter and a guardrail along Highway 75 between the College’s north entrance and Muddy Creek Road. The project includes utility relocation and new drainage structures as well.

Motorists are asked to drive with caution throughout the construction zone as workers will be present. Lane closures will be implemented throughout the duration of the project based on construction phase work. The project will result in lane closures 24 hours daily. This project is expected to be completed in September of 2024, according to TDOT.
