The Northeast State Department of Theatre proudly presents the stage adaptation of Begets: Fall of a High School Ronin opening in November at the Ballad Health Center for Performing Arts on the Blountville campus.

Playwright Qui Nguyen (She Kills Monsters, Vietgone) brings to life the high school drama circle except with samurais and shoguns dueling it out in angst-filled teenage social cliques.

In this action-packed samurai story set inside the halls of an all-American high school, Begets: Fall of a High School Ronin tells the tale of Emi Edwards, a high school geekgurl whose fighting to overthrow the cruel shoguns of her school. However, in her journey to right wrongs, will her own cravings for popularity and power corrupt her quest to save the school? Will she establish a new world order? Or will Emi succumb to the arrogance and violence she wants to end?

Opening night is November 16 at 7:30 p.m. Evening performances continue November 17 and November 18 at 7:30 p.m. Two matinee performances are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on November 17 and November 19.

Begets premiered at Waterwell Theatre in New York City in April 2015. The play is being directed by Brad McKenzie, assistant professor and director of Northeast State Theatre.

The play is being produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc., of New York, N.Y.  In compliance with the American Disabilities Act, Northeast State honors requests for reasonable accommodations made by individuals with disabilities.
