Northeast State Community College welcomes the Surati dance artists to campus for two performances on Tuesday, March 19.
Sponsored by the International Education Program of Northeast State, Surati incorporates the Indian performing arts to create and present performing arts and cultural experiences that globalize themes rooted in Indian culture.
The free performance begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Ballad Health Performing Arts Center at the Blountville campus, 2425 Highway 75, next to Tri-Cities Airport. A dance workshop will be held at 1:30 p.m., in L106 of Basler Library at the Blountville campus.
Surati’s artistic director Rimli Roy serves as an artist, choreographer, producer, and director who breaks the boundaries of traditional Indian performing art forms. She is also the Founder and Artistic Director of the leading award-winning organization Surati for Performing Arts.
Surati strives for artistic excellence and works with quality artists, administrators, and technicians. Surati brings its programming to the under-served communities including senior citizens and low-income communities. Representation consists of people from diverse socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. Surati seeks to educate communities about the history and evolution of Indian performing arts, while entertaining through classical dance music & theater.
Rimli, along with the Surati team, has performed at prestigious venues like The Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, and The Library of Congress to name a few.
