NE State honored as TBR Community College of the Year

Northeast State has been named the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) Community College of the Year.

Northeast State received the prestigious accolade during the Sixth Annual Statewide Outstanding Achievement Recognition (SOAR) celebration  held on March 28 in Nashville.

Northeast State President Jeff McCord accepted the award on behalf of the campus community.

“We greatly appreciate TBR for this recognition,” said Dr. McCord. “I am incredibly grateful for our College’s faculty, staff, and students to which this honor belongs. The award is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and belief the Northeast State community has in its purpose. It symbolizes excellence in the collective commitment between the college and our partners to bring prosperity to our communities. At Northeast State, we love what we do and are excited about the good things still yet to come.”

Dr. Jeff McCord accepts the TBR Community College of the Year Award.

Kathy Coleman, the College’s dean of advising and retention, also won Advisor of the Year honors.

Shelby McKenzie, director of high school programs at Northeast State, was recognized as a finalist in the College Staff Member of the Year category.

Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) Northwest took home the Technical College of the Year award.

The College of the Year award recognizes the College that has demonstrated, through evidence, a sustained commitment to and proactive advancement of the causes of student success and workforce development at their institution.

The College System, governed by the Tennessee Board of Regents, comprises the state’s public community and technical colleges. Launched in 2019, SOAR celebrates the colleges’ outstanding students, faculty, staff, colleges, advisors, benefactors, volunteers, and partners.
