In preparation for Northeast State’s Spring Commencement ceremonies on May 7, the Northeast State Police Department evaluated the current state of construction on Highway 75 and the potential traffic congestion that may be caused due to the increase of campus visitors for the events. In order to create a traffic plan to permit the ease of access and egress on campus, the department has developed a strategy to make this event more enjoyable for everyone.
The traffic pattern for commencement will use separate routes for entering campus and a separate route for exiting campus. The plan will allow entering traffic to line up on campus, instead of Highway 75, to prevent unnecessary congestion.
Entering traffic will access campus from the Highway 75 entrance that is closes to the campus walking trail, or as labeled on the attached map “Student Entrance.” Traffic flow will proceed to the rear of campus where an entry point will allow access to the event parking areas. This entry point will be one-way to prevent too much traffic attempting to return to Highway 75 through the construction zone.
Exiting traffic will be routed to the rear campus access area. This area will provide a secondary route back to Highway 75 via Muddy Creek Road, or to Interstate 81.
On behalf of the Northeast State Police Department, we wish everyone a safe and joyful experience, as well as a well-deserved congratulations to the Class of 2024!
