Northeast State’s BOYC tops $120,000 raised for students

Northeast State’s annual Because of You Campaign (BOYC) enjoyed a tremendously successful year raising funds to support students during the annual fundraiser held from October 21 to November 6.

Northeast State staff announced the campaign raised $121,085 to fund programs for students administered through the college’s Foundation. The total exceeded the campaign’s $100,000 fundraising goal. The results were announced today at a celebratory event held on the Blountville campus.

“On behalf of the Northeast State Foundation, I want to say thank you to the faculty, staff, students, and community that participated in this campaign,” said Megan Davidson, director of Development at Northeast State. “Without this support, many of our scholarships could not be funded.”

The Because of You Campaign featured a series of fundraising events organized by departments from across the college. The campaign raises money for student scholarships administered by the Northeast State Foundation. Staff and faculty organize to compete as the top fundraising group.

Nineteen teams of staff, faculty, and students competed to raise the most money for BOYC this year. The first-place award for the top fundraising team went to the Kingsport Academic Village – Workforce Solutions team with an impressive $23,221 raised. Team Bear Bucks took the second-place team award with $17,904 raised. The LEAD Center received the third-place award with $8,813 raised. The Northeast State Scholars Foundation/Alumni and Bookstore team raised $7,411 to place fourth. The Honors Program and Alpha Iota Chi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa placed fifth with $3,295 raised.

Josh Johnson, assistant director of Alumni Engagement and Donor Relations, praised staff, faculty, and students for their extraordinary contributions to the 2024 campaign.

“Your generosity knows no bounds, and I am proud of all the work you do,” Johnson told team members attending the celebration.

Teams went all out in creativity for the best door decoration. The contest featured 54 doors decorated and judged across all campuses. The Most Creative award prize went to Blazier-Wilson Hall of Northeast State at Kingsport. The Most Bootiful award went to the Business Office. The Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences received the Best School Spirit Award. The Career Services Center won the Fan Favorite Award voted on by the campus community.

The Northeast State’s Got Talent contest invited submissions from students and staff. Fans paid to cast their votes for the most talented performer. The first-place award went to Nathan Hawkins for his cover version of “Master of Puppets” by Metallica. Leif Ratliff took second place with his stirring cover of “Golden Embers” by Watchouse. Northeast State student Sarah Puckett received the third-place award for her beautiful point dance to the song “Poor Unfortunate Souls.

The Northeast State Foundation supports academics, community service, educational scholarships, and other programs offered by the college. As the fundraising entity of the college, the Foundation exists to generate and receive gifts and donations in support of college programs. The Foundation administers more than 200 scholarships.
