Grab your kilt and go green when Northeast State hosts a Highland Games Amateur Clinic on Saturday, April 5 with feats of strength and demonstrations in traditional Scottish culture.
The clinic takes place from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Upper Quad of Northeast State’s Blountville campus, 2425 Highway 75 next to Tri-Cities Airport. Registration is $20 and includes lunch and a sweet highland games T-shirt. The deadline to register is Friday, March 21. A release form will be required for participation. The College’s International Education Program sponsors this event in conjunction with the Appalachian Highland Celts. The clinic will feature the following competitive activities: caber toss, hammer throw, open stone, sheaf toss, weight for distance, and weight over bar. Participants learn the games’ history and game techniques. Participants also play for prizes and are encouraged to wear kilts or comfortable shorts.
In addition to Scottish-inspired games and competitions, eventgoers will have the opportunity to watch and learn. The College welcomes students and the public to the all-day event.
