Northeast State offers Mental Health First Aid course in Bristol

Workforce Solutions offers the Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training course at the Slater Community Center in on May 16. The course takes place May 16, from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Slater Community Center, 325 McDowell Street, Bristol Tennessee; Room 208 Course fee is $20.

Northeast State’s Workforce Solutions offers the Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training course at the Slater Community Center in Bristol Tennessee, on May 16.

Mental Health First Aid instructs participants on how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training gives individuals the skills needed to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis.

Course fee: $20

 Mental health first aiders learn a 5-step action plan to recognize warning signs of a mental health or substance use challenge, provide help in crisis and non-crisis situations, and understand where to turn for additional assistance. The 5-step action plan called ALGEE is: Assess risk of suicide or harm; Listen nonjudgmentally; Give reassurance and information; Encourage appropriate professional help; and Encourage self-help and other support strategies.
