The Northeast State Community College Foundation honored longtime friends and welcomed new partners during a donor recognition breakfast held Friday at the Meadowview Convention Center in Kingsport.
Northeast State President Dr. Jeff McCord welcomed the assembly, foundation members, and donors. He thanked donors and scholarship recipients for their dedication to success.
“Sometimes we need people to believe in us before we believe in ourselves,” McCord told the gathering. “We know our donors have long exhibited a strong belief in the success of our students.”
The Northeast State Community College Foundation announced the funding of six new scholarships and welcomed four new members to the President’s Trust. The Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) presented a philanthropy award to two longtime friends of the college.
“We are delighted to welcome our new trust members and are deeply grateful for the new Foundation scholarships,” said Megan Davidson, Director of Development at Northeast State.
Elizabeth Hall Grindstaff and Mary Louise Hall received the Chancellor’s Excellence in Philanthropy Award from the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR). TBR Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Innovation, Dr. Tom Sewell, presented the award that was accepted by Linda Calvert, Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Culture at Northeast State. The sisters drew inspiration from their nephew, Alex Hall, who was a member of the college’s inaugural graduating class and served as a faculty member at Northeast State for 33 years. Their generous endowments totaling $949,000 have enabled the provision of two-year scholarships to numerous students since 2015.
The President’s Trust extends to donors who have made contributions exceeding $10,000 to the Foundation. This year’s new President’s Trust members are Myra O’Dell, Dr. Bobby Phillips, Dr. Susan Grover, and Braxton Cross.
Six new scholarships and their sponsors were announced by Foundation board member April Eads. Those scholarships are listed below.

The Foundation recognized alumnus Chad M. Bailey as the 2024 recipient of the annual Northeast State Outstanding Alumni Award. Bailey graduated with honors from Northeast State Community College and has remained heavily involved in the Alumni Association. Bailey joined Northeast State in 2018 as the assistant vice president and chief financial officer. Under his leadership, the college has been strengthening its financial position, achieving robust financial health and stability.
The Foundation received $1.17 million in gifts and awarded more than 500 scholarships to students for the 2025 fiscal year. The Foundation awarded more than $514,000 in scholarship funds to students for the 2025 fiscal year.
