Northeast State Community College prioritizes the mental health and well-being of its students, faculty, and staff with a range of engaging and supportive initiatives. To commemorate August as National Wellness Month, Northeast State’s Workforce Solutions team sponsors three excellent events designed to help participants learn and renew their spirits.
Northeast State Assistant Professor Andrea Amos teaches the insightful Mental Health First Aid course on Friday, August 15, at the Kingsport Center for Higher Education, 300 W. Market Street, in downtown Kingsport. The course takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Room 131. The course fee is $20.00.
On Wednesday, August 20, two “Music and Meditation” events take place featuring yoga instructor Christiane Popperwell and cellist Dave Eggar. The music and meditation session combines yoga with the ethereal music of the cello. The first session takes place at 1:00 p.m. on the third floor of Wayne G. Basler Library at Northeast State at the Blountville campus. The second session is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at the Bristol Sessions Hotel Rooftop in downtown Bristol. Christiane guides yoga movements. A nine-time Grammy nominee, Eggar provides a live, immersive soundscape on the cello. This experience includes a 60-minute Restore class followed by a 20-minute guided space meditation designed to calm the mind, relax the body, and nourish the soul.
The fee for both music and meditation sessions is $20.00. Register and pay online via the link found here: https://www.campusce.net/northeaststate/course/course.aspx?catId=41.
From individual counseling to campus-wide awareness events, Northeast State strives to create a supportive and healthy environment that empowers students and the community to thrive.
