Audiences are sure to have a bloody good time when the Northeast State Community College Department of Theatre invites you to the fall production of Feathers and Teeth beginning Nov. 13 and running through Nov. 16.
Playwright Charise Castro Smith takes audiences beyond the front door and into family drama, including teenage angst, dark comedy, and manic thrills.
The year is 1978, and 13-year-old Chris mourns her mother’s illness and recent death. Her world turns upside down dealing with her dad’s new girlfriend (her mom’s ex-nurse!), a few freaky creatures, and the boy next door.
Home-sweet-home becomes a haunted house for Carol when her father’s new fiancée moves into their home. Struggling with the recent death of her mother, Chris is convinced Carol is evil, but she just can’t persuade her dad. When a mysterious, potentially dangerous but cute creature is found in the family’s backyard, Chris believes it to be a sign from above to get rid of Carol once and for all.
This imaginative, bone-chilling, and funny play elevates dysfunctional family drama to scary heights. A blend of monster tale and Greek tragedy, Feathers and Teeth lays bare the exploration of human grief and obsession.
Performance dates are Nov. 13-15 at 7:30 p.m., with matinee performance at 2:00 p.m. on Nov. 16. All performances are being staged in the Ballad Health Regional Center for the Performing Arts Theatre at the college’s Blountville campus, 2425 Highway 75.
The production is directed by Bradley McKenzie, assistant professor and director of Northeast State Theater. The play is being produced by special arrangement with The Dramatists Play Service, Inc., of New York, N.Y. In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, Northeast State honors requests for reasonable accommodations made by individuals with disabilities. Direct requests can be made at least 10 days in advance to (voice and TTY) 423.279.7640.
