Reconnecting the Gap is a six-week non-credit course offered by Northeast State to provide reading and writing learning support to help students place into college-level coursework. The program prepares students to test out of reading and writing learning support requirements.
Students are qualified to participate as long as they are Tennessee Reconnect eligible. The program is limited to 30 participants. Students must also have either reading or writing learning support requirements. Students who have both requirements are strongly encouraged to participate.
The program is free for students. Testing fees as well as course materials, textbook codes, and supplemental materials will be provided free of cost to students. Participants will also be provided a meal on course nights free of charge. The program is funded by a Tennessee Board of Regents grant.
The session will run from May 14 – June 20, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Northeast State’s Blountville campus, 2425 Highway 75. The deadline to sign up for the program is May 2, 2019.
Removing reading and writing learning support deficiencies will free up six credit hours from the initial semester of coursework in half the time of a typical semester. Students will be permitted to take additional courses that would not be allowed if the reading and writing deficiencies had not been satisfied.
Also, students may become familiar with campus, online course management software, faculty, and fellow students prior to the full semester beginning.
