NE State to offer college credit for WorkKeys certification

Starting in the 2020 spring semester, Northeast State will begin awarding three hours of college credit for WorkKeys certification.

The WorkKeys NCRC is a portable, evidence-based credential that certifies the essential skills for workplace success. Employers look for it from job candidates as a valid and reliable predictor of job performance.

Individuals completing the three-part exam in Applied Math, Workplace Documents, and Graphic Literacy earn a National Career Readiness Certificate.

Northeast State President Bethany Flora announced at the First Tennessee Development District’s annual open house Dec. 11 that the College will start awarding three hours of college credit for WorkKeys certification.

The credit will be applied to the College’s Advanced Technology programs in Industrial Technology through the College’s prior learning assessment process.

The credit will apply to these concentration areas: advanced manufacturing, automotive body/collision repair, automotive service, engineering design, machine tool, manufacturing engineering, mechanical, motorsports, and welding/metal fabrication. Also included is the chemical process operations technical certificate.

Northeast State is an ACT-approved NCRC® WorkKeys Testing Center. Northeast State proctors the WorkKeys test at the Blountville, Johnson City, and Kingsport campuses.
