Student success extends beyond a degree and alumni status. Two new endeavors at Northeast State seek to help with clothing options for job interviews and careers.
The Northeast State at Elizabethton campus offers students clothing options for job interviews when the Elizabethton Clothing Closet opens next month. The clothing closet features a wardrobe of business professional choices students prepping for job interviews.
Interim site director Amy Drinnon at the new Elizabethton Clothing Closet for students.
Elizabethton interim site coordinator Amy Drinnon said the closet concept took shape earlier this year after the campus received a donation of clothing from an individual. The closet continued growing thanks to additional donations from faculty, staff, and students during the year.
“There are students here we can help, and that is important to us,” said Drinnon. “We want to be able to donate to students and this represents a huge step forward with that.”
The Closing Closet also stocks work wear clothing, coats, and accessories for students heading into career with protective clothing requirements. Drinnon said the campus closet opens for students when the spring 2020 semester begins in January.
Drinnon said the process to become eligible for the clothing closet is straightforward. A student submits an application with the campus office. After review, the student qualifies to select clothing according to need.
The Career Clothing Emergency Assistance Award/Harr Family Scholarship awards students funding to purchase clothing for job interviews or workplace settings. Created under the auspices of the college’s Scholarship Programs and Student Needs office, this emergency scholarship provides a fixed amount to students demonstrating financial need. Students interested in applying for the scholarship can contact the Scholarship Programs office, C2107, beginning in January.
This scholarship application is open to all Northeast State students. A student submits an application demonstrating financial need for support. The Student Emergency Fund Scholarship committee reviews applications and returns a decision for support within 48 hours of the application submission. The scholarship gets awarded based on the need and circumstance of each applicant. Students use the funds to purchase clothing as required for classes or job interviews. The scholarship does NOT fund maintenance fees, textbooks, or school supplies.
The Career Clothing Emergency Assistance Award and Elizabethton Closing Closet represent two support services for Northeast State. The college continues to seek ways to help students succeed beyond the classroom and after graduation.
