Best Study Tip Contest Winner #4 – Makayla Adams

Our fourth and final Best Study Tip Contest winner is Makayla Adams.  Her best study tip is below.

  1. Make the time something you look forward to. Find your favorite corner in the library, a study room with a view, or even a cozy couch in the humanities building. Finding somewhere you feel safe and comfortable makes the world of a difference.
  2. Have a plan going into your session. The less stress the better. If you’re like me, it can be easy to get distracted and stressed out, so go in with a list of what you need to get accomplished. Pick up your favorite coffee on the way or make a cup of hot tea and get to work.
  3. If studying with friends help, do it! Even though I prefer to study alone, sometimes studying with friends or fellow classmates helps keep me on track. Especially on the days when I’m tired or just not in the mood. We have much to learn from each other! We’re in this together!
  4. Delegating time throughout the week for studying is important. It’s difficult to absorb information when you’re cramming the night before a test or project. Smaller study sessions throughout the week or semester make life much easier in the long run. Know your limits. Don’t push them. And if the cram session is unavoidable, be sure to take plenty of breaks. Drink water. Bring snacks.
  5. Change your mindset. Studying can feel like a chore at times- especially when it’s a class you find difficult or uninteresting. Try to remember that learning is more important than grades. Focus on learning first, and then good grades will follow. And if you need help, ask! The staff at NE is incredible. I’ve found that they are always willing to offer assistance. Don’t forget about the many resources NE has to offer! You’ve got this!
