Graduating this fall? Get your cap and gown at the Fall Graduation Kickoff 2022 event happening November 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Blountville campus.
Northeast State’s Office of Admissions and Records hosts Grad Kickoff for students to get graduation caps, gowns, and other regalia for Fall graduation. The event takes places in the atrium area of the main entrance between the General Studies and Pierce buildings.
There is NO CHARGE to Northeast State graduates for their caps and gowns. Northeast State will host Fall semester graduation ceremonies at the Blountville campus on December 16. Details can be found at this link: https://www.northeaststate.edu//Graduation-and-Beyond/Graduation-Ceremony/.
Diplomas are NOT distributed at the commencement ceremony. Diplomas will be available for pick up in the Admissions and Records office approximately 4-6 weeks following the graduation semester. Graduates receive an email notification with the specific dates when diplomas are available.
This history of academic dress goes back to the medieval universities of the 12th and 13th centuries. Those studying wore a habit or a cloak to which was attached a cowl or hood. This could be pulled up over the head or thrown back, according to weather conditions. Later, the gown served the dual purpose of providing warmth in the unheated halls as well as uniformity of dress.
