The Basler Library Esports Arena continues to host hot battles with the Northeast State Esports Bears posting big wins this week as teams pass the midpoint of the fall season.
Wednesday night’s Super Smash Brothers Ultimate (SSBU) match saw Silas Shook (GamerTheC) stay undefeated in match play after winning 3 – 0 over his opponent from Mineral Area College (Park Hills, Mo.). Shook moves to 5 – 0 on the season.
SSBU teammate Kayden Haselton (Lunacy) also looks to stay undefeated when he matches up against an opponent from Potomac State College (Keyser, West Va.) today at 3:00 p.m., in Basler Arena.
Super Smash Brothers operates as a crossover fighting game where players must use differing attacks to weaken their opponents and knock them out of an arena. The game features 86 characters with different abilities.
Meanwhile, putting the “valor” in Valorant, the Northeast State Bears won two games to zero in a best-of-three match against Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (Perkinston, Miss.) on Thursday evening.
The Bears’ Valorant squad of Alex Defreece (Shaggy); Bryson Raymond (RaiRaine); Gavin Callahan (Gavy); Will Francis (bullfrogging); and Hayley Fields (Snow_flakess) improved their record to 4 -1 on the season. Bears Rocket League team member Mason Ramsey (alias Tan_O_Cuna) graciously put the “rant” in “Valorant” with his blast-by-blast live color commentary of the match.
Valorant is a free-to-play, team-based first-person hero shooter set in the near future. Players play as one of a set of Agents, characters based on several countries and cultures around the world. Agents have unique abilities as well as a unique ultimate ability that requires charging through kills, deaths, orbs, or objectives. In the main game mode, players are assigned to either the attacking or defending team with each team having five players on it. Teamwork and communication are vital.
