Northeast State Community College’s International Education Program will host two performances by the Kotchegna International Dance Company on February 14.
The world-renowned dance troupe will first perform at 1:30 p.m. in the Kingsport Center for Higher Education (KCHE) auditorium and will wrap up the day with a final performance in the Regional Center for the Performing Arts (RCPA) in Blountville at 7 p.m.
No tickets are required to experience the high-energy performances of West Africa’s Ivory Coast-inspired dancers and drummers, and the event is free and open to the public.
Kotchegna International Dance Company is a corps of multicultural dancers that has received critical acclaim for its masked and stilt dances. The founder of the company, Vado Diomande, was born in the northwest Ivory Coast, where he grew up dancing. He spent 15 years as a principal dancer in the Ballet National and established the New York-based Kotchegna Dance Company in 1994.
