The Northeast State Debate Team recently debuted at its first tournament of the semester at Walters State Community College. The team performed well, earning accolades in both team and individual categories.

Dean Fagg and Matthew Hughes claimed first place in the novice debate category, while team members Connor Sproule and Riley Axelrod clinched the second-place spot. Alexander Benton and Beka Saulsbury unofficially took third place in the novice debate category.

In recognition of their performances, Dean Fagg was awarded the prestigious first-place speaker award, while Connor Sproule earned the third-place speaker award. Beka Saulsbury garnered the first-place beginner speaker award.

Emily Napier, the head coach of the Northeast State Debate Team, said the team’s performance was an excellent start to the season.

“We are incredibly proud of our talented debaters and their impressive performance at the tournament,” Napier said. “These victories mark just the beginning of what promises to be a successful debate season this year.”
