Northeast State students posted impressive performances while earning eight state championships and 13 total medals during the SkillsUSA Tennessee State Leadership and Skills Conference (SLSC). Held March 15 through March 18 at the Chattanooga Convention Center in Chattanooga, the SLSC showcases the skilled trade abilities of high school and college students across Tennessee. Competing in 28 categories, students earned eight gold medals, two silver medals, and three bronze medals. The gold medal winners are recognized as state champions in their respective categories.

“These results are a testament to the hard work of our students and the dedication of our faculty advisors,” said Ray Acker, assistant dean of the Technologies Division at Northeast State. “We look forward to supporting our gold medalists as they represent Northeast State on the national stage later this year.”
The gold medalist students qualify to compete at the National Leadership & Skills Conference in June. The Northeast State SkillsUSA chapter also earned the prestigious Chapter of Excellence designation at the conference. Acker also received the Distinguished Administrator Leadership Award from SLSC.
Northeast State’s SkillsUSA student chapter was established in 2018. The chapter has recorded impressive success in state and national competitions in recent years.
Industry professionals created the SkillsUSA competitions to ensure students learn real-world skills employers demand from entry-level professionals. Gold medal winners earn the designation of state champion for their category. Gold medalists advance to compete at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference scheduled for June 1 to June 5 in Atlanta.
