The presidents of Northeast State Community College and the Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) Elizabethton signed four new articulation agreements for students pursuing careers in technical skill sets and computer information pathways.
“It is a decision to do what’s best for the region we serve and what’s best for the students working to make a better life; and it’s a decision to honor the education earned at a TCAT,” said Dr. Jeff McCord, President of Northeast State. “We want to honor that education and treat TCAT students as we should. We appreciate the partnership and alignment of purpose that we have with TCAT.”
The new articulation agreements create educational pathways for students to transfer their academic credit at TCAT to Northeast State as they pursue a two-year degree. Today’s agreement signing included four pathways for TCAT students to articulate to Northeast State to pursue associate of applied science (A.A.S.) degrees in the following programs:
- Machine Tool Technology to Industrial Technology – Machine Tool
- Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Technology to Industrial Technology – Mechanical
- Automotive certificate to Automotive Technology – Automotive Specialist
- Computer Information Technology (CIT) to Computer Information Technology.
Today’s agreements represent a total of 10 articulation agreements signed between Northeast State and TCAT Elizabethton. The CIT agreement gives TCAT students the option to pursue the A.A.S. degree in the concentrations of Networking, Systems Administration, or Cyber Defense while students pursing the Automotive degree can specialize in automotive service, autobody repair, and motor sports.
“This partnership is making a difference for our students, our region, and our industries,” said Heath McMillian, President of TCAT Elizabethton. “We expect this partnership to grow even more as the Higher Education Center comes along in Carter County.”
TCAT Elizabethton and Northeast State will share the Carter County Higher Education Center, a collaborative learning facility. The Center, currently under construction near the former Workforce Development Complex site on Highway 91, promises exciting educational opportunities to a new generation of students in Carter County.
“This is a tremendous effort to create pathways that are now open for our students,” said Dr. Richard Church, Executive Vice President of Instruction, Dual Enrollment and Accreditation at TCAT Elizabethton.
Northeast State enjoys articulation agreements with several colleges and universities, including East Tennessee State University, Milligan University, Tennessee College of Applied Technology at Morristown and University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
