Northeast State Community College and the University of the Cumberlands (UC) signed an agreement on Tuesday to ease the transfer process for students from Northeast State to the four-year liberal arts college in Williamsburg, Kentucky.
Northeast State President Dr. Jeff McCord, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Connie Marshall, and Dr. Timothy Noe, Vice President for Enrollment at the University of the Cumberlands, signed the agreement at the Technical Education Complex on Northeast State’s Blountville campus.
“One of our goals is to give our students as many pathways to progress in whatever direction they want to go,” said Dr. Marshall. “Our students were taking advantage of what UC was giving them, so we are excited this agreement can make it official.”
Under the terms of the agreement, UC grants transfer credit to students for all college-level coursework completed with a passing grade at Northeast State. Beyond academic credit transfers, incoming Northeast State transfer students receive UC’s financial incentives, including per-credit-hour tuition, free application to admission, free textbooks, and access to campus programs and support services.
“At Cumberland we really care about students, what they are doing, and where they are going,” said Dr. Noe. “We pursue every opportunity to partner with like-minded institutions that care about students.”
The University of the Cumberlands also provides an admission counselor and connects their advising team to Northeast State students seeking to transfer. UC maintains a transfer credit policy that allows flexibility for students transferring either before completing their associate’s degree or after graduating with an associate’s degree.
“It provides another clear pathway for our students to transfer for the associate’s degree to enter their bachelor’s degree program,” said Dr. Stephanie Barham, Assistant Vice President for Academic Programs, Assessments, and Accreditation at Northeast State. “It also provides opportunities for the removal of barriers when it comes to financial burdens for our students.”
This collaboration underscores the University of the Cumberlands’ commitment to offering a transformative student experience that aligns with and builds upon the quality education provided by Northeast State.
“We appreciate the way the University of the Cumberlands honors the education provided at Northeast State,” said Dr. McCord. “University of the Cumberlands is true partner to our college and a great next step for our students.”
