Punk and emo! Indie rock! Traditional Irish ballads! The Entertainment Technology program of Northeast State Community College delivers the sound and fury at the upcoming fall concert series beginning September 26.
The Entertainment Technology programs features a new live music series with sensational performances by local and international acts. All performances begin at 7:00 p.m., in the Entertainment Technology Sound and Lighting Lab (Room O58) in the Technical Education Complex building on the Blountville campus.
First up is a double bill of the bands Fairview and Sleep City bringing punk / emo / metal sounds on September 26. Fairview is an American easycore band from Johnson City. The group re-emerged in November 2021 when former collaborators Aaron Rice and Chase Buchanan decided to write and record the song “Better Than Okay” representing the first song they had written together in over a decade. They recorded the track at AXR Recordings studio in December 2021 with producer and engineer, Alex Ryan. They decided they would release the song under their previous band, Fairview. After self-releasing the track, they enlisted old friend Christopher Mitchell to join the band. They invited Alex Ryan (bass) and Chris Miller (drummer) to round out the new incarnation of Fairview. Listen to the bands newest EP, “Better Than Okay”, released on June of 2022 and their latest single “Idle Threats” released June 16 of this year on Spotify and other streaming services.
With four members from entirely different backgrounds, Sleep City is a ragtag outfit of hungry musicians ready to prove that the Midwest isn’t the only place to find genuine emo. The band’s genesis began in 2019 when a couple friends had to write a few songs for a project in the Entertainment Technology classes at Northeast State. These were the first demos of Sleep City. They formed as a studio band at the start of a global pandemic, and quickly learned that they missed playing in front of people more than anything. The show is free and open to the public. All performances are being produced by Northeast State Entertainment Technology students. The shows are open to the public and anyone interested in live music. For more information, contact tec@northeaststate.edu.
When will the Irish ballads be performing?
Marsha, The Paul Brock Band from Ireland had been booked for November 1. Unfortunately, the band announced that had would have to cancel this show. Our Entertainment Technology Department is actively seeking another band to perform on that date.
