Northeast State Community College and the Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) at Morristown have signed a new articulation agreement that will provide a seamless pathway for students pursuing careers in Engineering and Design.
The agreement, signed by Northeast State President Dr. Jeff McCord and TCAT Morristown President Susanne Cox, allows students who earn a Diploma in Drafting at TCAT Morristown to seamlessly transfer 26 credit hours towards an Associate of Applied Science degree in Industrial Technology – Engineering Design Technology at Northeast State.
“It takes both the head and the heart to make these things happen,” said Dr. McCord. “This creates a ladder of success that allows our students the ability to continue to progress on the road to prosperity.”
The agreement was facilitated by the dedication of faculty members Daniel Arnett from Northeast State and Darren Aldred from TCAT Morristown, who played a crucial role in developing this beneficial partnership.
“We are super excited about this opportunity for our students,” said President Cox. “This will be another tool in their toolbox to make them more valuable in the workforce.”
McCord and Dr. Nathan Weber, assistant vice president for Academic Affairs at Northeast State, credited Arnett and Aldred as the catalysts that made the articulation happen.
“Their passion for their program and their students is second to none in the articulation agreements I’ve had the opportunity to work on,” said Weber.
TCAT Morristown student Taylor Tolliver, who plans to graduate this spring, will be the first student to utilize this new articulation pathway by enrolling at Northeast State this fall.
The Diploma in Drafting at TCAT Morristown equips students with the skills to translate engineering design concepts into detailed working drawings using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software.
The Engineering Design Technology program at Northeast State builds upon this foundation, preparing students for careers as industrial design drafters and engineering technicians. Graduates of these programs are highly sought after by architects, construction companies, and engineering firms across various industries, including architectural/construction design, piping, structural, and machine design.
This partnership between Northeast State and TCAT Morristown demonstrates a shared commitment to student success and workforce development in the region.
“This articulation agreement between TCAT Morristown and Northeast State will provide students in the field of Drafting an opportunity to continue their education,” said Weber. “It is a great pathway for the students of Northeast Tennessee, and we value the opportunity to work with TCAT Morristown.”
